Moroccan side RS Berkane opened their CAF Confederation Cup group stage campaign with a convincing 2-0 win against Angola’s Lunda Sul on Wednesday evening.
The Group B encounter, held in Morocco, showcased RS Berkane’s intent to go one better after finishing as runners-up in the previous edition of the competition. Burkinabe defender Issoufou Dayo emerged as the hero of the match, netting both goals for the hosts.
Dayo opened the scoring in the 21st minute with a well-timed finish to give RS Berkane the early advantage. The Moroccan team continued to dominate but had to wait until the 80th minute for Dayo to strike again, sealing the victory with his second goal.
Elsewhere in Group B, Stade Malien of Mali also secured a 2-0 win against South Africa’s Stellenbosch, leaving both winners tied at the top of the standings with three points each.
RS Berkane’s performance highlights their determination to reclaim the title they narrowly missed last season, while Lunda Sul and Stellenbosch will look to bounce back in the coming matches.
