Zamalek coach Moataz Gamal has emphasized the significance of his team’s upcoming clash with Zambia’s Zesco United in the CAF Confederation Cup, calling it a crucial step in their group-stage campaign.
Speaking at a press conference, Gamal said, “Zamalek has prepared thoroughly for this match. Our aim is to secure victory against Zesco United and follow it up with a win over Kaizer Chiefs. That will not only ensure qualification but also position us at the top of the group, which makes the knockout stage path easier.”
He acknowledged the team’s earlier hiccup, adding, “Our draw with Kaizer Chiefs in the second round affected our standing slightly, but we managed to regain the lead. Now, our focus is on winning these upcoming matches to maintain that top spot.”
Addressing off-field challenges, Gamal noted, “Registration suspensions impact any team, but we have top-level players who can rise to the occasion. We are confident in their ability to deliver when it matters most.”
The Egyptian coach also praised Zesco United, saying, “They have quality players, and I have studied many of their games. While they’ve faced some misfortune, I hope the match will be technically strong for both sides.”
He concluded, “This match will be key in deciding the group leader, especially with Al-Masry and South Africa’s Kaizer Chiefs in contention.”
Zamalek will travel to Levy Mwanawasa Stadium in Zambia to face Zesco United at 1 p.m. on Sunday, in the fifth round of the group stage.
