CAF Confederation Cup: Fixtures set to light up Sunday’s action

The Confederation Cup resumes this Sunday with a packed schedule of decisive first and second-leg encounters across the continent.

Clubs from Zambia to the Democratic Republic of Congo will battle to secure qualification in a series of closely poised ties.

In Zambia, Zesco United will host FC Libreville of Gabon at 14:00 (local time) needing to overturn a 2-0 deficit from the first leg.

Tanzanian side Azam FC are in a stronger position, taking a 2-0 advantage into their home fixture against South Sudan’s El Merriekh Bentiu at 15:00.

AS Otoho d’Oyo of Congo will kick off at 15:30 against Angola’s CD Primeiro de Agosto, holding a slender 2-1 first-leg lead. At 16:00 in Nigeria, Kwara United face a stern test as they attempt to recover from a dramatic 4-3 first-leg defeat to Ghana’s Asante Kotoko.

In Togo, AS Gbohloe-Su welcome Burkina Faso’s US Forces Armées at 16:00 trailing 1-0 from the first leg, while Libyan outfit Al Akhdar will try to overturn a 2-1 deficit at home to Flambeau du Center of Burundi at 17:00.

Mali’s Djoliba AC will also be in action at 17:00 against Abia Warriors of Nigeria after their 1-1 first-leg draw.

Alongside these return fixtures, the competition will also see a first-leg clash in the Democratic Republic of Congo where AS Simba host Djabal FC d’Iconi of the Comoros at 14:00.

The second leg of that tie is scheduled for 4 October.

Sunday’s matches promise high-stakes drama as clubs fight for a place in the next stage of Africa’s second-tier club competition, with away goals and narrow margins likely to decide several contests.
