Ghanaian referee Daniel Laryea has been handed officiating duties for the CAF Confederation Cup clash between South Africa’s Kaizer Chiefs and Egyptian side Al Masry, following an appointment by the Confederation of African Football (CAF).
The encounter is set for Sunday, January 8, in South Africa, with both teams vying for a spot in the next round of the continental competition.
Laryea’s selection follows an impressive run of high-profile assignments across African football.
He recently officiated the Africa Cup of Nations semi-final between Morocco and Nigeria, delivering a performance that earned widespread praise as one of the tournament’s standout officiating displays, despite criticism from sections of Nigerian supporters.
On the domestic front, the experienced official has also received recognition for his achievements. He was recently honoured at the Ghana Football Association, where he was presented with his FIFA referee badge—underscoring his status as one of Ghana’s top referees qualified for international duty.
His appointment for the Kaizer Chiefs–Al Masry showdown further underlines Ghana’s growing influence and strong representation in African football officiating.
