CAF Confederation Cup: Amas Obasogie denies match-fixing allegations after Singida Black Stars suspension

Amas Obasogie has firmly denied allegations of match-fixing after being suspended for three months by Singida Black Stars.

The Nigerian international goalkeeper has been accused of deliberately conceding goals during fixtures in the CAF Confederation Cup and the NBC Premier League, allegations he strongly rejects.

The claims relate to defeats against Flambeau du Centre in continental competition and Namungo FC in domestic league action.

Obasogie has insisted he played no intentional role in either loss and attributes the goals conceded to professional mistakes rather than deliberate misconduct.

In a detailed response, he said:

“I state clearly and unequivocally that I have never fixed a match and I never will. The goals conceded in the CAF Confederation Cup match against Flambeau du Centre and in the NBC Premier League match against Namungo FC were the result of footballing errors, not deliberate foul play. I take full responsibility for my performance; however, mistakes on the pitch should not be confused with match-fixing. As the national team goalkeeper representing the great nation of Nigeria, I fully understand the serious consequences of match-fixing. My integrity, reputation, and career are priceless to me. I have sworn never to bring discredit upon football, my club, or my country.”

He added: “I am ready and willing to appear before any disciplinary committee to defend myself and clear my name.”

Singida Black Stars have opened an investigation into the matter, leading to the goalkeeper’s suspension while proceedings continue. The club has yet to publish its findings.

The outcome of the inquiry is expected to determine his immediate future, as the club and governing authorities assess the allegations.
