CAF CL: Sundowns defender downplays difficulty of AS FAR clash ahead of return leg
Mamelodi Sundowns defender Keanu Cupido has suggested that the CAF Champions League final first leg against Morocco’s Royal Army was not as difficult as many anticipated, despite the quality of their opponents.
Missed Chances Made It Harder
Cupido admitted that Sundowns complicated matters for themselves by missing several clear chances that could have put the tie beyond doubt, even though they still secured a crucial 1-0 win and a clean sheet.
Respect for Moroccan Opposition
He acknowledged the strength of FAR Rabat, especially when playing at home, noting that the return leg in Rabat will present a far tougher challenge for his side.
Set-Piece Threat Identified
Cupido highlighted the Moroccan side’s danger from crosses and set pieces, saying Sundowns focused on limiting space and restricting their opponent’s movement during the first leg.
Focus Turns to Decisive Second Leg
Looking ahead, he stressed that the second leg will be a different test entirely due to the away atmosphere, but insisted that team unity and concentration will be key if Sundowns are to achieve a positive result.
Return Leg in Rabat Next Sunday
The decisive second leg is scheduled for next Sunday at the Prince Moulay Abdellah Stadium in Rabat.
