The Confederation of African Football (CAF) President Dr. Patrice Motsepe and Moroccan officials inaugurated the TotalEnergies CAF AFCON Morocco 2025 Fan Zone at the Université Internationale de Rabat, kicking off the excitement for Africa’s premier football event, which begins on December 21, 2025.

The ceremony, also attended by Morocco’s Foreign Affairs Minister HE Mr. Nasser Bourita and Royal Moroccan Football Federation (FRMF) President Mr. Fouzi Lekjaa, connected a diverse group of over 45 countries’ students to the upcoming tournament.

Fan zones serve as vibrant, communal hubs designed to enhance the overall tournament experience for both ticketed and non-ticketed fans, extending the excitement beyond the stadiums. They aim to create an inclusive, festive, and engaging environment for people of all ages.

Morocco is hosting the Africa Cup of Nations for the first time since 1988, showcasing significant infrastructure development and organizational experience.

The 24-team competition, running until January 18, 2026, is expected to draw a massive global audience of over 1.5 billion TV viewers.

Organizers hope the tournament will be a record-breaking success, with more than one million tickets already sold, reflecting a broader national vision that includes co-hosting the 2030 FIFA World Cup.

CAF President Motsepe, a South African billionaire, has focused on improving CAF’s finances and global competitiveness.

He expressed confidence that this edition will be “extremely successful” and the “best AFCON in the history of this competition”.

FRMF President Lekjaa, also Morocco’s Minister Delegate for the Budget and a FIFA Council member, has been the primary driver behind the country’s extensive investment in state-of-the-art football infrastructure, including the Mohammed VI Football Complex.

This strategic investment, driven by a long-term vision, aims to solidify Morocco’s position as a continental football hub and use the tournament as a springboard for future global events.
