Al Ahly were forced to settle for a 1–1 draw against Tanzania’s Young Africans in their Matchday Four encounter of the 2025/26 CAF Champions League on Sunday.

The Group B clash was played at the Amani Stadium in Zanzibar, where the Egyptian giants dominated possession but struggled to convert their chances.

Al Ahly started the match with Mostafa Shobeir in goal, supported by Mohamed Hany, Yasser Ibrahim, Yassin Marei and Ahmed Kouka at the back.

Marwan Attia, Aliou Dieng and Ahmed Zizo operated in midfield, while Mahmoud Trezeguet, Marwan Osman and Taher Mohamed Taher led the attack.

Young Africans, on the other hand, lined up with Jigi Diarra in goal, alongside Dickson Job, Bakar Mwaminyito, Ibrahim Baka and Boka in defence.

Damaro Camara, Duke Aboya and Maxi Nzengili featured in midfield, with Okello, Bakoum Zouzoua and Dibou spearheading the attack.

The first half ended goalless, despite Al Ahly creating several clear-cut opportunities. However, the Tanzanian side remained disciplined at the back and threatened on the counter.

Young Africans took the lead shortly after the restart when Ibrahim Hamad capitalised on a defensive lapse in the 45th minute. A low cross into the box was poorly dealt with, allowing Hamad to fire home past Shobeir.

Al Ahly responded strongly and drew level in the 60th minute through Aliou Dieng. The Malian midfielder reacted quickest to a loose ball following a corner kick, unleashing a powerful strike into the net to restore parity.

The draw leaves Al Ahly top of Group B with eight points from four matches, having recorded two wins and two draws. Young Africans remain second with five points, courtesy of one win, two draws and one defeat.

Al Ahly had hoped to secure qualification to the quarter-finals with a victory, which would have taken them to ten points and sealed top spot with two games to spare.

As it stands, the Egyptian side remain well placed to advance, with CAF Champions League regulations favouring head-to-head results in the event of a tie on points, followed by goal difference and goals scored.
