CAF Champions League: We will do our best to beat Esperance in Cairo – Al Ahly goalkeeper Mohamed El Shenawy
Al Ahly goalkeeper Mohamed El Shenawy remains confident despite his side’s 1-0 defeat to Esperance in the first leg of their CAF Champions League quarterfinal.
The Tunisian outfit secured a narrow advantage on Sunday at Hamadi Agrebi Stadium, with Mohamed Amine Tougai converting a penalty to give Esperance the lead.
Speaking to beIN Sports after the match, El Shenawy said, “We were good in the first half, and we still have a second half in Egypt.”
“We will do our best to achieve promotion. The players did their part in the first leg, and as for the management’s decisions, the team accepted them.
“We have an important match ahead of us in Cairo, and we are well aware of its importance,” he added.
Al Ahly will need a 2-0 victory in Cairo to advance to the semifinals, where they would face the winner of the tie between South Africa’s Mamelodi Sundowns and Mali’s Stade Malien.
The return leg is set for next Saturday at Cairo Stadium, with kickoff scheduled for 19:00 GMT.
