FC Saint Éloi Lupopo’s assistant coach, Karim Hendou, has lauded his team’s performance after a 1-1 draw with Mamelodi Sundowns in the CAF Champions League.

The Group C clash on Sunday in Lubumbashi saw Lupopo take an early lead through Enoch Molia’s 19th-minute strike, only for Jayden Adams to equalise for Sundowns in the 55th minute.

With the stalemate, both sides remain in precarious positions in the group standings, sitting third and fourth respectively, and will need strong results in the final matchday to keep their quarter-final hopes alive.

Speaking after the game, Hendou praised his players’ display.

“We drew, but for me, we played a very good match,” he said.

“A very, very good match, especially in the first half, where we scored a goal before conceding from a set piece in the second half.

“We have one match left, and to qualify, we must win, and we will win in Kigali,” he added.

Lupopo face Al Hilal in a decisive final group-stage match this weekend, with a victory essential to maintain their chances of progressing to the knockout rounds.
