FC Saint-Eloi Lupopo head coach Guy Bukasa has hailed his team’s tactical display after guiding them to a historic 1-0 victory over MC Alger in the CAF Champions League.
The win on Sunday marked Lupopo’s first-ever triumph in the group stage of Africa’s premier club competition. The DR Congo side secured the late victory through a stoppage-time penalty awarded for a handball.
Bukasa praised his squad’s game plan, insisting they outsmarted the Algerian side throughout the match.
“We controlled the match from start to finish. We outmanoeuvred them tactically,” Bukasa said as reported by Leopards Football.
“Unfortunately, we didn’t score more goals as we wanted, but we are very satisfied with the victory. We hope to do the same in Algeria.”
The two sides meet again in the return leg in Algeria on Friday, 30 January. Bukasa emphasized that Lupopo will go into the match with a winning mindset.
“We’re going to Algeria to win. We’re not going there to watch them play. The team is completely revitalised.
“Now it’s up to us to seize the opportunity this weekend has given us. We’re going to Algeria to win.”
