CAF Champions League: We have the players to beat RS Berkane – Rivers Utd coach Finidi George
Rivers United head coach Finidi George says his side has the quality and character to secure a crucial victory when they take on Moroccan heavyweights RS Berkane in Friday’s CAF Champions League group-stage clash at the Godswill Akpabio International Stadium in Uyo.
The Pride of Rivers head into the match under pressure after a difficult start to their campaign, having suffered a 3-0 defeat to defending champions Pyramids FC of Egypt on matchday one. The result has heightened the importance of a response as the former NPFL champions look to register their first points of the competition.
Despite the setback, Finidi remains confident and believes his players are ready to deliver when it matters most.
“We owe it to our fans to rise up to the occasion and get a result against RS Berkane,” he told CAFonline.
The Nigerian tactician added, “We did well for 50 minutes against Pyramids and then lost concentration. We cannot afford to do that tomorrow.”
The former Super Eagles winger stressed that his squad has the ability and mindset required for a strong comeback. He noted that the players understand what the Champions League stage demands and are prepared to meet the challenge head-on.
“We have the players that can get the job done, and I believe they will step up. The CAF Champions League is a big stage for any player, and I believe they all realise and appreciate that,” George said.
Rivers United will now look to harness their home support as they aim to revive their campaign with a statement performance against Berkane.
The crucial encounter against RS Berkane is scheduled to kick off at 4 pm on Friday.
