CAF Champions League: We can surprise Mamelodi Sundowns – Stade Malien coach Mauril Njoya
Stade Malien coach Mauril Njoya has sent a clear message to Mamelodi Sundowns ahead of their pivotal CAF Champions League quarter-final first leg at Loftus Versfeld Stadium in Tshwane on Friday.
Despite Sundowns entering the clash as favourites, given their strong continental record, Njoya insisted his team will not be intimidated.
The Cameroonian tactician emphasized that his side, often seen as underdogs, is prepared to challenge one of Africa’s elite clubs.
“In football, there are a lot of surprises. Those so-called small teams can surprise big teams,” Njoya told the media.
“Even for us, if we are playing against a team that some may call a small team, we are always going for the win.
“But if they call us a small team, we will also go for the win against a big team.”
Njoya also highlighted that Stade Malien’s trip to South Africa is about more than participation.
“The Champions League is where we want to be. It is where the biggest teams in Africa compete,” he added.
“So we are here not just to visit, we are here to stay. We want to be one of the best in Africa.”
The first leg promises a high-stakes showdown as Stade Malien look to make their mark on Africa’s premier club competition.
