A week after the conclusion of the 3rd edition of CHAN in South Africa, attention now shifts to the continental cups. This weekend marks the beginning of the first round of the Champions League and the CAF Cup, two prestigious competitions organized by the Confederation of African Football for clubs.
In this context, the Senegalese club Diambars will host the Burkinabé side ASFA-Yennenga. The reigning champions of Burkina Faso are relying on their players who participated in the recent African Nations Championship (CHAN) to achieve a positive result in Dakar. Meanwhile, Diambars, making their debut in African interclub competitions, are determined not to yield easily.
“Our preparation for this debut has been characterized by generosity, enthusiasm, and eagerness. Everyone is eagerly anticipating this entry into one of Africa’s top club competitions. It’s a new challenge, and everyone is looking forward to it,” said the Senegalese coach of Diambars in an interview with the CAF website. Despite acknowledging his team’s lack of experience, the coach remains optimistic about their chances in the upcoming clash.
“While ASFA-Yennenga boasts significant experience, with several players representing Burkina Faso in CHAN 2014, we believe in our generosity and talent to compensate for their physicality and know-how. The game will be decided on the field, and Diambars aims to proudly represent Senegalese football,” he added.
