RS Berkane produced a dominant display to beat Rivers United 3-0 and close their CAF Champions League Group A campaign in style at the Stade Municipal de Berkane.
The Moroccan side took control before half-time, Youssef Mehri opening the scoring on 38 minutes from an Abdelhak Assal assist, before Paul Bassene doubled the lead five minutes later after fine work on the left by Mounir Chouiar. Berkane’s intensity, pressing, and width repeatedly stretched the Nigerian visitors, who struggled to create clear chances.
Early in the second half, Bassene struck again to make it 3-0, heading in from Ismael Kandouss’s delivery on 53 minutes to effectively end the contest.
With 55% possession, 22 shots and six efforts on target against Rivers United’s four attempts and none on goal, Berkane managed the game expertly, rotating through their bench while keeping a clean sheet. Finidi George’s Rivers United never found a way past a well‑organised Berkane back line and were second best in both boxes.
RS Berkane now turn their focus to Botola Pro, where they visit Renaissance Club Zemamra on Wednesday, 18 February. Rivers United return to NPFL duty, hosting Enyimba on Sunday, 22 February as they look to respond from this setback.
