CAF Champions League: RS Berkane grab dramatic late equaliser against Al Hilal Omdurman

RSB Berkane left it late but rescued a 1–1 draw at home to Al Hilal Omdurman in a tense CAF Champions League quarter-final first leg at Stade Municipal de Berkane.

The Moroccan side dominated possession yet spent most of the night chasing the game after an early Sudanese sucker punch.

Al Hilal struck first on 13 minutes when Abdelrazig Omer finished coolly from an Adama Coulibaly pass, punishing Berkane’s sluggish start and silencing the home crowd. The visitors sat compact, soaked up pressure and looked dangerous on the break, while Berkane struggled to turn their territorial control into clear chances before half-time.

Coach Mouine Chaabani’s changes after the interval added urgency, and the hosts steadily cranked up the pressure. Deep into stoppage time, substitute Steven Ebuela conceded a penalty, and Mounir Chouiar stepped up in the 90+9th minute to send the goalkeeper the wrong way and spark wild celebrations.

Berkane’s late leveller keeps the tie finely poised, though Al Hilal will be happier with an away draw and their early goal in the bank. Everything now shifts to the return leg in Omdurman on March 22, where a semi-final place will be decided at the Stade Amahoro in Rwanda.
