CAF Champions League: Rivers United coach Finidi George devastated after RS Berkane defeat
Rivers United head coach, Finidi George, has expressed his disappointment after succumbing to a 2-1 home defeat to Moroccan side, RS Berkane in the CAF Champions League.
The Port Harcourt-based club had already faced a setback in the tournament, losing their opening group stage match against Egyptian side Pyramids FC last weekend.
Their hopes of bouncing back were dashed at the Godswill Akpabio International Stadium in Uyo on Friday, as RS Berkane scored twice in stoppage time to snatch a last-gasp victory, leaving Rivers United in a challenging position in the group stage.
Reflecting on the defeat, Finidi George acknowledged the disappointment but commended his players’ efforts.
“I have to say a draw wouldn’t have been a good result for us, but the loss is devastating. I think the overall performance of my players deserves more than what the outcome of the game looked like. It is quite unfortunate that we lost today,” the former Nigeria international said after the match.
With two consecutive losses in the opening group matches, Rivers United now face an uphill battle to keep their CAF Champions League ambitions alive.
