Nigerian outfit Remo Stars defeated Comoros’ US Zilimadjou 1-0 on Friday, completing the double over the side to advance in the preliminary stage of the CAF Champions League.

The Sky Blue Stars, who secured a 4-0 win in the first leg at the MKO Abiola Stadium in Abeokuta, wrapped up the tie with a 1-0 victory in the return fixture at the same venue.

Alex Oyowah struck in the 73rd minute to hand Remo Stars a 5-0 aggregate triumph and their first-ever passage beyond the preliminary stage at the third attempt.

Remo Stars will now face a stern test against South African giants Mamelodi Sundowns, last season’s CAF Champions League runners-up, who received a bye into the second round.

The 2016 champions have been in impressive domestic form, currently sitting second in the PSL table after collecting five wins, three draws and a single defeat from their opening nine matches.

The next round of games in the preliminary stage of the CAF Champions League will be played in October.
