Mamelodi Sundowns head coach Miguel Cardoso believes his side can secure a spot in the CAF Champions League final when they face Al Ahly in Cairo.
After a tense 0-0 draw in the first leg at Loftus Versfeld, the Brazilian tactician remains upbeat about his team’s chances in the return fixture.
Speaking to SABC, Cardoso praised his players for sticking to the plan and highlighted the importance of not conceding. He admitted that while his team had chances, they struggled to break through a solid Al Ahly defence that packed six men at the back.
“It’s important to understand that not conceding goals is always very important in these types of games,” he said.
“Scoring is also important, we played better in the first half, we had some chances, but Al Ahly played defensively and closed spaces with 6 players in defence.
“We tried different ways of playing, we tried to find spaces, we knew the game would be two or three chances and we had to score from them.
“We didn’t score but we are alive, we are fighting and I think we can finish the job there in Cairo.”
