South African giants, Mamelodi Sundowns, have reached the final of this season’s CAF Champions League after eliminating record champions Al Ahly.
The two African giants locked horns on Friday, April 25, in the second leg of their semi-final showdown.
Both teams went into the game feeling confident and ready to give their all for the win after the first leg ended in a goalless stalemate last weekend.
In the semi-final second leg today, Al Ahly scored first in the 24th minute to the delight of the home fans.
Tricky winger Emam Ashour set up Taher Mohamed, who equalised with a fantastic strike to break the deadlock of the game.
That goal separated the two teams at halftime before Mamelodi Sundowns returned from the break to mount a fightback.
Late in injury time, the pressure mounted by the South African side paid off as Al Ahly defender Yasser Ibrahim turned the ball into his own net.
Despite protests of a handball in the build-up, the referee would have none of it. Eventually, a 1-1 draw meant that Mamelodi Sundowns knocked out Al Ahly courtesy of the away goal rule to advance into the final.
The South Africans will face the winner of the other semi-final clash between Pyramids FC and Orlando Pirates in the final.
