CAF Champions League: Mamelodi Sundowns edge Esperance to reach final

Mamelodi Sundowns booked their place in the CAF Champions League final with a composed 1–0 win over Espérance at a packed Loftus Versfeld, sealing a 2–0 aggregate victory.

The hosts had an early chance to calm the nerves when Brayan Léon stepped up to take a penalty on 31 minutes, only to see his effort saved by Béchir Ben Saïd.

Remarkably, Léon responded instantly, finishing just four minutes later to put Sundowns ahead on the night and firmly in control of the tie. From there, Rulani Mokwena’s side managed the game with maturity, using their 58% possession to dictate tempo and limit Espérance to half-chances.

The Tunisians pushed after the break, making a flurry of attacking substitutions, but Ronwen Williams and his back line stood firm, restricting the visitors to only two shots on target.

With the crowd driving them on, Sundowns saw out the final minutes without major scares, their bench and fans erupting at the full-time whistle. After years of near-misses in Africa’s top competition, this disciplined performance sends the Brazilians back to the continent’s biggest stage with real belief.
