ES Sétif Set to Lead Algerian Charge in CAF Champions League Group Stage
Following the CAF Champions League group stage draw, ES Sétif has emerged as a key contender in a highly competitive Group B. The Algerian side, led by coach Kheireddine Madoui, will face domestic rivals USM Alger and MC El Eulma, alongside Sudan’s El Merreikh.
The grouping guarantees thrilling Algerian derbies, but also ensures that at least one Algerian club will advance to the tournament’s semi-finals.
Speaking to APS, Madoui acknowledged the balanced nature of the group. “USMA and MCEE have equal chances since they have had roughly the same preparation and match experience, which can be an advantage,” he said. “I admit, I secretly hoped to see one Algerian team in our group, but two is better,” he added with a smile.
Madoui cautioned against underestimating any opponents. “It is a difficult group. Besides the formidable USMA and MCEE, El Merreikh from Sudan are a strong side — let us not forget they eliminated Espérance de Tunis.”
With intense competition on the horizon, ES Sétif is preparing for what promises to be a challenging but rewarding campaign in Africa’s premier club competition.
