CAF Champions League: Finidi George blames defensive errors for Rivers United’s defeat to Pyramids FC
Rivers United technical adviser Finidi George has blamed defensive errors for his outfit defeat to Pyramids FC in the CAF Champions League.
The Nigerian outfit struggled to contain Pyramids on Saturday in Cairo, succumbing to a humiliating 3-0 defeat to the reigning Champions League holders.
The Port Harcourt-based outfit hoped for a flying start to the Champions League group stage, but the Egyptian side proved to be a stronger opponent.
However, the former Nigeria international has attributed the sides’ heavy defeat to errors, while expressing satisfaction with the players output despite the loss.
“We played well but the final touch was not there,” Finidi said after the game. “We did well in the first half and in the second half, their first goal was a mistake from our defender. If you allow a team like this to score, they will gain momentum, and from that they got their second goal, and from there the game was over.”
Rivers United will return home to face Moroccan side RS Berkane in their second group match at the Godswill Akpabio International Stadium in Uyo on Friday.
