CAF Champions League: FAR Rabat stun Pyramids in Cairo thriller
FAR Rabat produced a composed away performance to beat Pyramids FC 2-1 in Cairo and book their place in the CAF Champions League semi-finals 3-2 on aggregate.
The Moroccans struck early and then held their nerve in a tense second half as the hosts pushed desperately for a comeback.
Rabat silenced the 30 June Air Defence Stadium inside nine minutes, when Reda Slim finished a flowing move after smart work from Youssef El Fahli on the flank. The visitors then landed a huge blow shortly after the break, Mohamed Rabie Hrimat doubling the lead on 54 minutes with a precise strike following Slim’s clever assist.
Pyramids finally responded on 62 minutes, Fiston Mayele pulling one back from close range after a cross by Mohamed Chibi, setting up a frantic finale. Krunoslav Jurcic’s side, however, defended with discipline, with Tagnaouti and his back line repelling late pressure and seeing out a famous win on Egyptian soil.
For FAR Rabat, this was a statement night in Africa: clinical in attack, resilient in defence, and fully deserving of their place in the last four.
