CAF Champions League – ES Sétif to Play for Pride Against MC El Eulma
Defending champions ES Sétif will face MC El Eulma this Friday in the 6th and final group-stage match of the CAF Champions League. But for the Aigle Noir, this African campaign has already ended in disappointment, with the team eliminated prematurely from the competition.
Right-back Megatli admitted to Le Buteur that the team had high hopes of replicating last season’s continental success, but acknowledged that “things did not go as planned.”
“As players, we wanted to repeat last season’s feat,” he said. “Even if this match will not be very important for us, we will do everything to win it to properly prepare for the game against RC Relizane.”
Sétif is expected to field a rotated side, giving fringe players a chance to prove themselves and fight for a spot in the first team.
“This match will allow the players who haven’t featured much to show what they’re capable of and gain the coach’s trust,” added Megatli.
With eyes already turning to domestic challenges, particularly the upcoming fixture against RC Relizane, Megatli emphasized the importance of staying focused:
“We must prepare well for the match against RCR, who also had a good result away to RC Arbâa. The squad has regained confidence after the win over CS Constantine.”
Though Friday’s clash holds little significance in the standings, Sétif will aim to end their campaign on a positive note.
