CAF Champions League: Aymen Mahious confident Bibiani GoldStars cannot stage Algeria comeback

JS Kabylie striker Aymen Mahious has confidently declared that Bibiani GoldStars will find it nearly impossible to overturn their deficit in the second leg of the CAF Champions League preliminary round.

The Algerian side took a commanding advantage after defeating the Ghanaian champions 2-0 at the Accra Sports Stadium on Saturday, placing themselves firmly in control ahead of the reverse fixture.

JSK entered the tie as clear favourites, armed with decades of continental pedigree. The Tizi Ouzou club have twice lifted the CAF Champions League trophy and boast 14 Algerian league titles, credentials that underscored their dominance in Accra.

GoldStars, meanwhile, were making their debut on the African stage after clinching their first-ever Ghana Premier League title last season.

Mahious, who was instrumental in JSK’s win in Ghana, acknowledged GoldStars’ quality but was emphatic about his side’s strength at home.

“We played against a good team and we won 2-0 and at their home it’s difficult for them because we won,” he told journalists after the match. “Inshallah we will make the game easy in Algeria and we will win and qualify.”

The decisive leg takes place at the Hocine Ait Ahmed Stadium on Sunday, September 28. GoldStars must score at least twice without reply to force extra time, while any draw or win will be enough to secure JSK’s progression to the next round of the 2025/26 CAF Champions League.
