CAF Champions League: AS FAR fans demand suspension of Al Ahly winger Taher Mohamed Taher over violent act

Supporters of AS FAR have called for disciplinary action against Al Ahly SC winger Taher Mohamed Taher following chaotic scenes at the end of last Sunday’s group-stage clash in Cairo.

The game, played at the iconic Cairo International Stadium, was marred by crowd trouble as Al Ahly supporters hurled water bottles toward AS FAR players.

The unrest was reportedly sparked by lingering tensions from the earlier meeting between the two sides in Morocco.

In a statement published on Facebook, the AS FAR supporters’ group “Capital Fans” accused Taher of inciting the crowd by urging home fans to throw bottles onto the pitch. They described the alleged conduct as dangerous and contrary to the spirit of fair play, insisting the player should face suspension.

The group further demanded that an official investigation be launched and appropriate sanctions imposed on the Egyptian giants over what they termed a “barrage” of projectiles aimed at AS FAR players.

According to the statement, the incident resulted in an injury to player Hamoudan.

They also urged authorities to scrutinise the match delegate’s report carefully and to challenge any inaccuracies that could, in their view, downplay Al Ahly’s responsibility.

The statement concluded with a call for a comprehensive dossier — including video and audio evidence — to be compiled and, if necessary, submitted to the Court of Arbitration for Sport for further action.
