CAF Champions League: Anas Bach inspires AS FAR fightback bid ahead of Mamelodi Sundowns final decider
AS FAR defender Anas Bach has vowed the Moroccan side will “give everything” as they attempt to overturn a first-leg deficit against Mamelodi Sundowns in the second leg of the TotalEnergies CAF Champions League final on Sunday, 24 May, in Rabat.
The North African club return home trailing 1-0 after last weekend’s defeat in Pretoria, but remain confident that the tie is still open as they prepare for a decisive clash at the Moulay Abdellah Stadium.
Bach believes the advantage of playing in front of their home supporters could prove pivotal in a match that carries the weight of history for the Moroccan giants, who are chasing their first continental crown in 41 years.
“All the players know the responsibility on their shoulders,” Bach told CAFOnline.com. “There is the honour of wearing this shirt and representing the club in the final of the TotalEnergies CAF Champions League. That is the dream of every player.”
Despite the setback in South Africa, the defender insisted the group has not lost belief and is fully focused on producing a strong response in the return leg.
“Preparations for the second leg of the final are going well,” he said. “We will try to give everything we have in front of our fans to win the title.”
Bach also downplayed the significance of the first-leg result, describing it as only half of a longer contest.
“We lost the first leg, but that was only the first half of the final,” he said. “Now we will play the second match in front of our supporters and, God willing, we will give everything we have to keep the continental title in Rabat.”
With expectations high and thousands of supporters expected to pack the stadium, FAR Rabat face a defining night in their modern history as they look to overturn the deficit and restore their place among Africa’s elite.
