Al Ahly head coach Marcel Koller as three of his key players are facing a late test ahead of the CAF Champions League return leg against Mamelodi Sundowns.
After drawing goalless in the first leg, the Egyptian side will host the South African giants at the Cairo Stadium on Friday, April 25.
However, Karim El Debis, Moroccan Yahya Attiat Allah, and Palestinian Wissam Abu Ali underwent new MRI scans on Monday to determine their participation in the match against Sundowns.
“There were attempts to prepare Karim El Debis to participate in the match, but after the swelling in his ankle worsened, he underwent an MRI scan that confirmed he had a slight tear in the external ligament of the ankle, which will force him to be absent from the stadiums for at least another 10 days,” a source said.
The source continued, saying: “As for Moroccan Yahya Attiyat Allah, he needs an additional three weeks to recover and return to the pitch.
“On the other hand, there are attempts to prepare Wissam Abu Ali, who is now ready after recovering from an adductor muscle strain.
“Despite Wissam Abu Ali’s readiness, Koller refuses to risk him in the match, fearing a recurrence of the injury, especially since the team has many league matches coming up next May,” he added.
The winner of the tie will face either Orlando Pirates or Pyramids FC.
