Al Ahly Cairo’s defeat to Moghreb Tetouan in the CAF Champions League round of 16 has left the Egyptian giants with a tough task ahead in the return leg. The 1-0 loss was particularly frustrating as it came in the dying seconds of the match, with Mouhcine Yajour scoring a stunning free-kick to seal the win for the Moroccan side.
Despite putting in a solid performance, Al Ahly couldn’t prevent the last-minute heartbreak, which has put them in a difficult position for the return leg, scheduled for May 3 in Cairo. Hussein Al-Sayed, Al Ahly’s left-back, shared his disappointment:
“The return leg will be very difficult for us, and for the Moroccans too. I’m disappointed to have conceded a goal in the last breath of the match, but we can make up for this defeat in Cairo.”
While the Red Devils are still confident of making a comeback in front of their home fans, they’ll need to step up their game against a well-organized Moghreb Tetouan team, who impressed with their solid defense and controlled midfield.
