President of the Confederation of African Football, Patrice Motsepe, is set to attend the Africa Forward Summit in Nairobi, Kenya, on May 11-12, 2026, as preparations intensify for the 2027 TotalEnergies Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON).

Dr Motsepe is expected to deliver an address on Monday afternoon during the summit, where discussions will centre on Africa’s growth, innovation and strategic development across various sectors.

His participation comes at a crucial time as East Africa gears up to host the continent’s flagship football tournament for the first time in history.

The 2027 AFCON will be jointly hosted by Kenya, Tanzania and Uganda following the successful bid by the three nations.

During his visit to Nairobi, Dr Motsepe is also expected to meet senior government and football officials from the three co-host countries to assess ongoing preparations for the tournament.

Discussions are likely to focus on infrastructure development, stadium readiness, transport systems, security arrangements and broader organisational plans ahead of the competition.

The Africa Forward Summit brings together leaders from government, business, sports and development sectors to explore innovative ideas and partnerships aimed at accelerating Africa’s transformation and long-term growth.

CAF’s involvement in the summit further highlights football’s growing role in driving economic development, regional integration and investment opportunities across the continent.

The 2027 AFCON is expected to be one of the most significant sporting events ever staged in East Africa, with the tournament anticipated to boost tourism, infrastructure and international visibility for the host nations.
