CAF boosts media access ahead of Champions League final second leg in Rabat
The Confederation of African Football (CAF) has expanded media access ahead of Sunday’s CAF Champions League final second leg between AS FAR and Mamelodi Sundowns in Rabat.
In addition to the traditional pre-match press conferences, CAF has introduced “Media Open Days” throughout the build-up to the decisive encounter.
The initiative allows journalists broader and more consistent access to players, coaching staff and training sessions, offering deeper insight into preparations on both sides.
The policy shift reflects CAF’s growing emphasis on improving transparency and enhancing the visibility of its flagship club competition, the CAF Champions League, which continues to attract increasing international attention.
Organisers say the expanded access is designed not only to serve media professionals but also to bring fans closer to the tournament by providing richer storytelling and behind-the-scenes coverage in the days leading up to the final.
On the pitch, Morocco’s AS FAR face a challenging task as they attempt to overturn a narrow deficit. South Africa’s Mamelodi Sundowns hold a 1-0 advantage from the first leg, giving them a slender but valuable cushion heading into the return fixture.
The first leg, played last week, saw Sundowns edge the contest in a tightly fought encounter, leaving the tie finely balanced ahead of the decisive meeting in Rabat.
AS FAR will rely heavily on home support and a more aggressive approach as they chase the result needed to lift the continental crown.
With both sides preparing for what promises to be a high-stakes showdown, attention has also turned to how CAF’s new media framework could shape the broader presentation of African football on the global stage.
Sunday’s second leg is expected to draw significant attention across the continent, with the winner set to be crowned champions of Africa’s premier club competition.
