The CAF Awards are set to introduce three new categories at the 2019 ceremony, highlighting the growing recognition of excellence across African football. Approved by the CAF Executive Committee during their recent meeting in Cairo, the new awards will honor the Best African Interclub Player, the Best African Club President, and a Social Recognition Award.
These additions complement the existing awards, which remain highly anticipated each year. The African Player of the Year continues to be the highlight, while accolades for the Women’s Player of the Year, Goal of the Year, and Young Player of the Year will also be presented. Beyond individual player recognition, CAF will honor achievements at the team and management levels, including awards for the Men’s National Team, Women’s National Team, Men’s and Women’s National Team Coaches, as well as the Federation President of the Year. The CAF/FIFPro World XI will once again recognize the continent’s best players collectively.
The 2019 CAF Awards ceremony is scheduled for January 7, 2020, in Hurghada, Egypt. The event will be held in partnership with the PICKALBATROS Hotels and Resorts Group, one of the largest hotel chains in the country. This prestigious gathering not only celebrates outstanding performances on the pitch but also highlights the leadership and social contributions that help advance African football.
With the introduction of the new categories, CAF aims to broaden recognition within the football community, ensuring that contributions from clubs, administrators, and socially impactful initiatives are celebrated alongside individual and team achievements. The awards continue to serve as a benchmark for excellence, showcasing the talent, dedication, and influence of African football across the continent and beyond.
