CAF appoints Ghanaian referee Charles Bulu for Mighty Wanderers-Simba SC clash

The Confederation of African Football (CAF) has appointed Ghanaian FIFA referee Charles Bulu to handle the first-leg clash between Malawi’s Mighty Wanderers and Tanzanian giants Simba SC in the CAF Champions League.

Bulu has been selected to oversee the continental encounter as both clubs begin their battle for a place in the next round of Africa’s premier club competition.

The opening leg will take place on September 6, 2026, at the Bingu Stadium in Lilongwe, where Mighty Wanderers will have home advantage and look to secure a favourable result before travelling to Tanzania.

Bulu will not be working alone, with CAF assigning an all-Ghanaian team of assistants to support him. Seth Abletor and Richard Kweku Nartey have been named as the two assistant referees.

Nigeria’s Grema Mohammed completes the matchday officiating team as the fourth official.

The appointment represents another continental assignment for Bulu, who will be expected to maintain control of what could be a tightly contested encounter between the Malawian and Tanzanian sides.

Following the first meeting in Lilongwe, the two teams will settle the tie in the return fixture scheduled for September 12, 2026, in Tanzania.

With no advantage guaranteed before the opening whistle, both Mighty Wanderers and Simba SC will be looking to establish a strong position in the first leg ahead of the decisive return match.

The team that records the better aggregate result across the two encounters will progress to the next stage of the CAF Champions League.
