CAF announces final draw for U-20 Africa Cup of Nations 2025

The Confederation of African Football (CAF) has officially conducted the final draw for the Under-20 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) 2025, setting the stage for an exciting tournament in Côte d’Ivoire.

Held on Thursday, February 13, 2025, at CAF headquarters in Cairo, Egypt, the draw determined the group-stage matchups for the competition, which will run from April 26 to May 18, 2025.

A total of 13 teams will compete for the prestigious title, as well as four qualification spots for the FIFA U-20 World Cup in Chile later this year.

The draw produced several high-profile clashes, with record champions Nigeria finding themselves in a challenging group alongside two other former winners.

Group Stage Breakdown

  • Group A: Hosts Côte d’Ivoire will face DR Congo, Ghana, Tanzania, and a second UNIFFAC representative, making it one of the most competitive groups.
  • Group B: Nigeria’s Flying Eagles will battle it out against fellow former champions Egypt and Morocco, along with South Africa.
  • Group C: Defending champions Senegal begin their title defense against Zambia, Kenya, and Sierra Leone, promising an intense contest.

The tournament will follow a three-group format, with five teams in Group A, while Groups B and C feature four teams each. The top two teams from each group, along with the two best third-placed teams, will progress to the quarter-finals, leading to a knockout stage and the final on May 18, 2025.

Beyond continental glory, the four semi-finalists will also secure their spots at the FIFA U-20 World Cup in Chile, continuing Africa’s strong representation on the global stage.

With top talents set to showcase their skills, the CAF U-20 AFCON 2025 promises thrilling football and intense competition as the continent’s rising stars chase silverware.
