CAF announces 2024 Goal of the Year nominees
The Confederation of African Football (CAF) has unveiled the 11 nominees for the prestigious Goal of the Year award ahead of the 2024 CAF Awards. The winner will be announced on December 16 in Marrakech, following a vote that will be weighted 70% by fans and 30% by CAF experts.
The shortlist features some of the finest goals scored in CAF competitions between January and October 2024.
Among the standout contenders are Algeria’s Yassine Benzia, nominated for his stunning bicycle kick against South Africa in a March friendly, and Uganda’s Denis Omedi, who wowed fans with a remarkable scarf kick from an impossible angle in league play.
A significant portion of the nominees come from the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON), with several players earning recognition for their spectacular performances.
These include Aboubakary Koita (Mauritania) for his powerful strike against Angola, Néné Dorgeles (Mali) for his sensational effort in the quarter-final against Ivory Coast, and Kevin Pina (Cape Verde), who scored a stunning 30-meter shot against Mozambique.
