Saido Berahino, once a prominent figure in English football, has embarked on a new chapter by signing with Slovenian second division club Tabor Sežana.
The 31-year-old Burundi international, who previously played for clubs including West Bromwich Albion and Stoke City, aims to contribute to Tabor Sežana’s promotion aspirations.
Berahino’s career has been marked by significant highs and lows. He gained attention during his tenure at West Bromwich Albion, where he scored 36 goals in 121 appearances across all competitions.
His performances attracted interest from top Premier League clubs, notably Tottenham Hotspur, although a transfer failed to materialize in 2015.
Following his time in the Premier League, Berahino’s career path led him across various leagues and countries.
He had stints in Belgium with Zulte Waregem and Charleroi, in Cyprus with AEL Limassol, and briefly in India with Rajasthan United. His most recent competitive appearance was in February 2024 for AEL Limassol.
The move to Tabor Sežana represents Berahino’s latest endeavor to revitalize his career. Expressing his enthusiasm, he stated, “I’m excited to be part of a team that is competing for promotion and have a lot of young exciting players who so far have done a great job but now it’s time to push as a team and aim for one goal – promotion.”
Tabor Sežana, currently competing in Slovenia’s second tier, has set its sights on ascending to the top flight.
The club believes that Berahino’s experience and skills will be instrumental in achieving this objective. In an official statement, Tabor Sežana highlighted that Berahino will “undoubtedly play an important role in the hunt for the first league ticket with his experience and football knowledge.”
