Bayer Leverkusen are facing concerns over the availability of Burkinabe defender Edmond Tapsoba just days before their crucial Champions League fixture against Bayern Munich.
Tapsoba was absent during Leverkusen’s emphatic 4-1 victory over Eintracht Frankfurt in the Bundesliga, with head coach Xabi Alonso revealing that the centre-back is nursing a minor thigh injury.
“He didn’t feel well. He has a slight thigh problem. We didn’t want to take any risks and hope he will be fit to play on Wednesday,” Alonso told reporters.
The upcoming clash against Bayern Munich in the first leg of the Champions League round of 16 is one of the season’s most pivotal encounters for Leverkusen.
Tapsoba, a linchpin in the team’s defensive setup, would be a significant addition in containing the attacking prowess of the Bavarian side.
Uncertainty lingers over whether the Burkinabe international will recover in time, with Leverkusen hopeful that his presence could bolster their European aspirations.
The final decision on his participation is expected to be made closer to matchday.
