Wrexham have completed the signing of Burkina Faso international Issa Kabore on a season-long loan from Manchester City, adding further depth to their defensive options.
Kabore, 24, becomes the club’s 12th arrival of a busy summer transfer window, with another deal for Blackburn Rovers centre-back Dominic Hyam expected to be finalised before the deadline.
His addition brings Champions League pedigree and top-flight experience, strengthening Phil Parkinson’s squad ahead of a demanding Championship campaign.
The right wing-back joined Manchester City in 2020 but has yet to make a senior appearance under Pep Guardiola, instead building his career through a succession of loan spells.
His most recent stints were with Benfica, where he played twice in the Champions League, and Werder Bremen in the Bundesliga. Kabore has also spent time in France with Troyes and Marseille, and in England last season with Luton Town in the Premier League.
At Wrexham, Kabore will provide much-needed competition on the right flank, an area that has drawn attention in the early stages of the season.
Both Ryan Longman and Ryan Barnett have shared minutes there, but Millwall’s Aidomo Emakhu exposed vulnerabilities in that position during Wrexham’s 2-0 victory at The Den. Kabore’s pace, energy, and international experience are expected to raise standards in that role.
The loan marks only the second temporary signing of Parkinson’s tenure and follows Manchester City defender Callum Doyle’s £5 million permanent switch to north Wales earlier in August.
Should the Hyam transfer be confirmed, Wrexham’s total summer outlay will rise to £33 million, underlining the club’s ambition to compete at the top end of the Championship.
Kabore, capped by Burkina Faso at international level, will now look to establish himself as a key figure in Wrexham’s push for promotion.
