Burkina Faso U17 stars draw strong European interest after World Cup run
Twelve players from Burkina Faso’s under-17 national team have attracted interest from European clubs following an impressive showing at the U17 World Cup, according to the team’s head coach Oscar Barro.
Although the Young Stallions exited the tournament at the quarterfinal stage, their performances left a strong impression on scouts and recruiters.
The squad displayed organisation, technical quality, and resilience throughout the competition, qualities that elevated several individuals onto the international radar.
Barro confirmed the growing attention in an interview with Sport News Africa, describing the outcome as a major success for Burkinabè youth football.
He stressed that the exposure gained at the tournament has already translated into concrete interest from abroad.
“Of the 21 players we selected, almost 12 have stood out and are now attracting interest from major European clubs,” Barro said. “That is extremely important and deserves recognition.
The training centres that helped develop these players and continue their education also deserve praise.”
Among the standout prospects, forward Mohomed Zongo has already completed a move to Chelsea, marking a significant step in his early career.
His progress has highlighted the growing reputation of Burkina Faso’s youth development system on the global stage.
Elsewhere, midfielder Issouf Dabo has drawn attention from Queens Park Rangers, while defender Alassana Bagayogo has entered the sights of Paris Saint-Germain.
Their situations reflect the broader level of interest surrounding the squad, with several players now linked to clubs across Europe.
The attention reinforces the impact of Burkina Faso’s youth structures and the work carried out by local academies.
Barro emphasised the collective effort behind the team’s success, pointing to coaching, infrastructure, and long-term planning as key factors in preparing the players for elite competition.
For the young footballers involved, the interest offers both opportunity and responsibility.
European attention brings increased expectations, but it also validates the progress made during the World Cup campaign.
As discussions continue and pathways take shape, Burkina Faso’s U17 generation stands at a pivotal moment.
Their performances have opened doors beyond the tournament, and the coming months may define the next chapter for several of the Young Stallions as they move closer to the professional game.
