Burkina Faso to face Russia and Belarus friendlies

Burkina Faso head coach Amir Abdou is set to announce his squad for the upcoming international friendlies against Russia and Belarus as preparations intensify for the 2027 Africa Cup of Nations qualifiers.

The Etalons are using the June international break to continue building momentum and fine-tuning the squad ahead of the crucial AFCON qualifying campaign, which will determine the teams set to compete at the continental tournament co-hosted by Kenya, Tanzania, and Uganda.

The Burkina Faso Football Federation has confirmed that Abdou will unveil the official squad list on Tuesday, May 19, at 10:00 GMT.

The announcement is expected to attract significant attention, especially with fans eager to see which players will be trusted for the high-profile friendlies as the West Africans continue shaping their squad for future competitions.

Although the official dates and venues for the matches against Russia and Belarus have not yet been disclosed, the two encounters are expected to provide valuable tests for the Etalons against European opposition.

The friendlies will also offer Amir Abdou another opportunity to assess the form, chemistry, and readiness of his players ahead of the AFCON 2027 qualifiers.

Burkina Faso have remained one of Africa’s competitive national teams in recent years, consistently producing strong performances on the continental stage. The coaching staff will be hoping the upcoming fixtures help strengthen the squad further as they aim to secure qualification for the next Africa Cup of Nations tournament.

Interestingly, the squad announcement will come shortly before the official draw ceremony for the 2027 AFCON qualifiers, adding even more anticipation to an important day for Burkinabe football.
