In Burkina Faso, authorities have a unique way of honoring and rewarding ambassadors who bring pride to the country. In addition to traditional rewards, these “national heroes” are granted plots of land. The young Stallions, who won the U-17 African Cup by defeating Rwanda (2-1) in the final in Kigali in 2011, officially received their plots of land from the Bobo-Dioulasso Municipal Council on September 17.
“As a former player, I know the harsh reality of footballers. All it takes is one injury for you to be forgotten forever. It is with the aim of encouraging these children and inspiring others to represent the national colors with pride that we have decided to grant plots of land to the Stallions,” stated the mayor of the commune of Bobo-Dioulasso, as reported by lefaso.net.
This isn’t the first time municipalities in Burkina Faso have made such gestures for the Stallions. Arba Diallo, the honorable mayor of the commune of Dori, had previously offered plots of land to each player of the Burkina Faso national team after their outstanding performance in the CAN 2013, where they reached the finals.
