Edmond Tapsoba fires brace for Bayer Leverkusen

Burkina Faso international Edmond Tapsoba inspired Bayer Leverkusen’s comeback against Nuremberg, scoring twice to help the German champions recover from a two-goal deficit and secure a convincing 5-2 victory in the DFB-Pokal on Wednesday, October 28.

Leverkusen endured a difficult start to the encounter, falling 2-0 behind as Nuremberg threatened to cause an upset in the cup competition.

However, Tapsoba stepped up at a crucial moment to turn the tide for his side, pulling one goal back in the 41st minute before completing his brace four minutes into the second half to restore parity at 2-2.

The 27-year-old defender’s goals breathed new life into Leverkusen’s performance and provided the platform for the team to take control of the contest.

With the momentum shifting in their favour, Leverkusen went on to score three more goals to seal an emphatic 5-2 victory and secure their progression in the DFB-Pokal.

For Tapsoba, the performance was particularly significant as he registered his first two goals of the season for the German outfit. Beyond his defensive responsibilities, the Burkina Faso international once again demonstrated his ability to make a decisive contribution in the opposition’s penalty area.

His attacking threat is not entirely new. During the previous season, Tapsoba recorded five goals and three assists in the Bundesliga, highlighting his effectiveness from the back and his capacity to influence matches at both ends of the pitch.

Against Nuremberg, the centre-back delivered when Leverkusen needed him most, helping his team recover from a difficult position before they completed the turnaround.

The brace will provide a timely confidence boost for Tapsoba as he looks to build on his performance and continue contributing to Leverkusen’s ambitions across competitions this season.
