BURKINABE CYCLING FEDERATION PRESIDENT ALASSANE OUANGRAOUA RESPONDS TO CRITICISM WITH RECORD OF RESULTS
Under fire from certain clubs and supporters, Alassane D. Ouangraoua, president of the Burkinabe Cycling Federation (FBC), has firmly defended his record in an interview with Ofaso.net. Facing accusations regarding his management and leadership, Ouangraoua cited the federation’s achievements during his tenure as evidence of successful governance.
“Do these people have the necessary background to lead the Federation? Will they be able to maintain the level of Burkina Faso?” he asked pointedly.
The FBC president highlighted a string of victories that have marked Burkina Faso’s presence on the African cycling scene:
Tour du Faso yellow jerseys: Bangba Zidwenba, Aziz Nikiéma, Rasmané Ouédraogo
ECOWAS Tour winners: Aziz Nikiéma, Rasmané Ouédraogo, Hamidou Yaméogo
Tour du Togo: Noufou Minoungou (3-time yellow jersey winner), Hamidou Yaméogo, Bangba Zidwenba, Harouna Ilboudo
Tour du Bénin: First-ever win for Burkina Faso
Tour of Cameroon: Won by Oumarou Minoungou
“If these are the results, we have them!” he declared, dismissing calls for resignation as harmful to the future of Burkinabe cycling.
Ouangraoua went further, criticizing public demonstrations against the federation as damaging and counterproductive:
“This is not how we will manage our structures. Otherwise, there is no point in setting them up. Do these kinds of demonstrations do honor to Burkinabe cycling? I say no!”
Looking ahead, he promised an inclusive Management Council meeting, gathering all clubs and leagues to transparently evaluate the federation’s direction:
“If the Management Council asks to continue the mandate, we will continue. If it says that our results are not positive, I will not oppose it.”
Ouangraoua’s firm stance highlights a growing tension between leadership and grassroots stakeholders in Burkinabe sport — but also reflects a president confident in the results his administration has delivered.
