Burkina Faso international Nasser Djiga has officially joined Scottish giants Rangers FC on a season-long loan from Wolverhampton Wanderers, a move he considers pivotal to his professional growth.
The 21-year-old central defender, who arrived at Molineux in January for €12 million, has made just five senior appearances for Wolves. With first-team opportunities limited, the Premier League club has opted to send Djiga to Scotland to gain valuable experience in a highly competitive environment.
This is a dream come true for any player to play for a club as prestigious as Rangers. It’s an honor for me to be able to continue my development here. Every home game lasts 90 intense minutes, in front of 50,000 spectators in an incredible atmosphere… I can’t wait to get started.
Rangers, who are set to compete in the third qualifying round of the UEFA Champions League this season, see Djiga as a valuable addition to their defensive ranks.
Known for his physical presence and calmness on the ball, Djiga is expected to bolster the backline under manager Philippe Clement.
The loan agreement does not include an option to buy, underlining Wolverhampton’s long-term belief in the player’s potential.
However, regular minutes at a high-profile club like Rangers could prove decisive in shaping Djiga’s future at the top level.
His agent, Marcel Veerman, shed light on the reasoning behind the loan: We are very pleased with this loan. It is essential that Nasser receives significant playing time in a competitive league close to the Premier League, so that he can continue his progression at European level, as he has done over the past two years.

The move marks another step in Djiga’s fast-rising career, which began in Burkina Faso before taking him to Switzerland with FC Basel and subsequently to England.
Now in Scotland, he will look to gain consistency, contribute to Rangers’ domestic and European ambitions, and return to Wolves with added experience and confidence.
With the Scottish Premiership known for its physical demands and passionate fan bases, Djiga appears poised to embrace the challenge and make a lasting impression at Ibrox.
