Burkina Faso goalkeeper Ladji Brahima Sanou set for Al Merreikh move
Burkina Faso international goalkeeper Ladji Brahima Sanou is on the verge of joining Sudanese giants Al Merreikh, according to reports from Africafoot.
The 22-year-old, who emerged as one of his country’s brightest prospects during the last African Nations Championship (CHAN), is expected to complete the transfer once final administrative steps are concluded.
Sanou made his name with the local Stallions during CHAN, where his commanding presence and assured performances between the posts earned him widespread recognition.
His displays quickly drew the attention of several clubs outside Burkina Faso, eager to secure one of West Africa’s most promising young goalkeepers.
Sources close to the negotiations indicate that an agreement has already been reached with Al Merreikh, one of Sudan’s most decorated clubs.
The deal is believed to be in its final stages, with only paperwork and formalities delaying the official announcement.
The goalkeeper’s career is being overseen by Boureima Maïga, a respected agent known for representing a number of Burkinabe stars, including Bayer Leverkusen defender Edmond Tapsoba.
Maïga has played a pivotal role in guiding Sanou’s next step, assessing several offers before recommending Al Merreikh as the most suitable option for his development.
While the young shot-stopper was also courted by two Tanzanian sides, the Sudanese opportunity was deemed more stable and ambitious by his representatives.
Al Merreikh, a club with a strong continental presence and a loyal fan base, is seen as offering the right platform for Sanou to grow and test himself at a higher competitive level.
Ladji has the qualities and mentality to succeed beyond Burkina Faso. This move comes at the right time in his career, and Al Merreikh presents the ideal environment for him to prove himself, said Maïga, speaking to local sources.
For Sanou, the transfer marks a significant turning point in a career still in its early stages.
With determination to push beyond domestic recognition, the Burkinabe goalkeeper is expected to use this move as a springboard to further opportunities on the African continent and beyond.
Unless there is an unexpected change, Sanou is set to arrive in Sudan in the coming days to finalise his contract and be unveiled as Al Merreikh’s new goalkeeper.
His ambition is clear: to take a major step forward in his career and cement his reputation as one of Africa’s most promising young talents.
