Brama Traoré has assumed the role of head coach of the Burkina Faso national team, as announced by Lazare Banssé, president of the Burkinabè Football Federation (FBF) during a press conference on Monday.
Previously in charge of the U20 and U23 national teams, Traoré is entrusted with the task of leading Burkina Faso to qualification for the Africa Cup of Nations 2025 and the 2026 World Cup.
The 61-year-old tactician is replacing Frenchman Hubert Velud after an abysmal showing at the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations in Cote d’Ivoire.
Burkina Faso exited the tournament in the Round of 16 after losing to neighbours Mali.
President Banssé emphasized Traoré’s wealth of experience, commendable character, and aptitude for managing a national team with seasoned players.
He expressed confidence in Traoré’s ability to rejuvenate the team, instil discipline, and attract binationals.
The coach’s mandate includes not only achieving sporting success but also fostering a cohesive team spirit.
Traoré, acknowledging the responsibilities bestowed upon him, pledged to prioritize discipline within the national team.
He affirmed his commitment to building a formidable squad and instigating a positive transformation.
Traoré aims to navigate the Stallions to success on the international stage, echoing the sentiments of President Banssé, who deems him the ideal candidate to guide Burkina Faso’s national football team through its upcoming challenges.
