Burkina Faso defender Edmond Tapsoba has picked his favourite teams to win the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations that is set to start in Ivory Coast this weekend.
The Burkinabe has been a mainstay centre back at the heart of defence of the German Bundesliga leaders Bayer Leverkusen.
Since his move from Vitoria Guimaraes to Leverkusen, he has been a refined defender as he plays a critical role in Xabi Alonso’s that seek to take the Bundesliga title from Bayern Munich for the first time in 12 years.
“The Africa Cup of Nations is special for us.” Tapsoba told Egyptian channel ONTIME Sports
“We are stronger than we are in previous editions because we have improved in every position.”
“There is no small team. Everyone is improving, and we have been, so we can say that we are in a difficult group.”
“I can say that Morocco, Senegal, and Ivory Coast will have the higher chances of winning the competition than the other participating teams.
Tapsoba’s country, Burkina Faso, have been paired in Group D with Algeria, Angola, and Mauritania.
When asked on his team’s chances, the Leverkusen defender said.
“We played against Algeria in the World Cup qualifiers, and they have good players and a good just like Angola do.
“The same can be said about Mauritania because we played them two months ago, and we only managed a draw, so they are a strong side.
The Stallions in the last AFCON gave a very good account of themselves as they made it all the way to the semi-final before losing out to eventual champions Senegal.
