Edmond Tapsoba celebrated a major career milestone as Bayer Leverkusen defeated Eintracht Frankfurt 3-1 in Saturday’s Bundesliga clash, marking his 250th appearance for the club.
The Burkinabe central defender, 26, joined Leverkusen in January 2020 from Portuguese side Vitória Guimarães and has since become a mainstay in the team’s defence.
“It’s a special moment for me,” Tapsoba said after the match, reflecting on the achievement.
Since arriving in Germany, Tapsoba has shown remarkable consistency, averaging more than 41 appearances per season over six campaigns.
His performances have attracted attention from several leading European clubs, but he has remained loyal to Leverkusen, where his contract extends until 2028.
The milestone came during a comfortable home victory against Frankfurt in matchday 20, a result that keeps Leverkusen in contention for the Bundesliga title this season.
Tapsoba’s leadership at the back has been a key factor in the team’s solid defensive record and ongoing challenge at the top of the table.
Over six seasons, the Burkina Faso international has become an integral figure for the “Werkself,” earning praise for his composure, tactical awareness, and ability to marshal the defensive line.
His development has mirrored Leverkusen’s ambitions, as the club continues to target domestic honours and maintain a strong presence in European competitions.

Reflecting on his journey, Tapsoba described the milestone as both a personal and professional achievement.
“I am proud of what I have accomplished here,” he said. “Reaching 250 games shows the trust the club has placed in me and motivates me to keep improving every season.”
As Leverkusen push toward their goal of becoming German champions in 2024, Tapsoba’s experience and consistency will be crucial in navigating the demands of the Bundesliga and European football.
His 250th appearance is a testament to his durability, skill, and importance to the club.
