Burkina Faso will look to bounce back from their disappointing start to the CHAN 2024 campaign when they face the Central African Republic on Wednesday, August 6, at 14:00 GMT.

Both sides are seeking their first points in Group B, making this encounter at the Benjamin Mkapa National Stadium a pivotal clash in the race for qualification.

The Stallions A’, who fell 2-0 to hosts Tanzania in their opening fixture, enter this match with no margin for error.

Head coach Issa Balboné did not mince words when reflecting on his team’s lacklustre display, labelling it a non-match.

Burkina Faso struggled to impose themselves physically and were far too cautious in the attacking third, a combination that ultimately led to their downfall.

There is no time to dwell on regrets. We have to show a different face, especially in the final third. We need to take risks, create chances, and be present in the opponent’s box, Balboné urged in the pre-match briefing. His message was clear: a bold and assertive performance is non-negotiable if the Stallions wish to keep their hopes of advancing alive.

While Burkina Faso are under pressure, the Central African Republic approaches this contest with a mix of excitement and determination.

Making their CHAN debut, the Fauves A’ are stepping onto the continental stage for the first time, yet they are determined not to play the role of mere participants.

Despite their inexperience at this level, their qualification journey showcased a collective resilience that could trouble more established sides.

Their coach has emphasized a team-oriented philosophy, compensating for the absence of high-profile individual talents with a disciplined and cohesive playing style.

The opening fixture against Burkina Faso presents an opportunity for the Central African Republic to announce themselves on the big stage.

For Burkina Faso, however, this is a must-win encounter.

Anything less than victory would severely dent their aspirations of progressing beyond the group phase, particularly given their status as pre-tournament favourites in Group B.

With the pressure mounting and their backs against the wall, the Stallions must deliver a performance that restores belief.

The stakes are high, the margin for error is slim, and as both teams prepare for this decisive clash, only one thing is certain—this Group B battle could well determine who stays in the tournament and who sees their CHAN dream fade early.
